Extreme Business – Like the Minority Report movie

In that futuristic sci-fi movie where peoples got judged before perform the crimes itself and peoples can be recognized by eye scan trough any camera, the second observation can open dozens of doors for marketing and advertising. Wonder cameras identifying peoples trough the eye scanning! It’s Fantastic!

At the Minority Report Movie when pre-crime  officer John Anderton (Tom Cruise) is near of some advertising panels the cameras perform an identification trough eye scan and personalize the advertisement specially for John Anderton.

Well, in Second Life it´s already possible. Every resident had a unique identifier (Agent Key), like a social security number and any script is able to read this number and identify the resident itself. Not a eye scan, but works in a similar analogy to RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), a new technology to identify (not only for this, but a example) products in a supermarket or supply distribution center. The classic and academic case of RFID is the Wal Mart case.

So, it’s like every resident emits your own unique number to any device around. We developed a system that’s running on our store that’s catches this number, send it to a database for Analysis and return to us all the relevant information about the customer. With the information provided in the customer’s consumer profile, we will offer some rebates and suggestions of products. A classic example:

- We have a prefab home
- We developed furniture set for this prefab model|
- Someone that’s bought in the past that prefab home decides to visit us again

The system will identify all of these attributes and will offer the furniture set for the customer.(Yes ! It is Cross-Selling! in a standard retail scenario, not in a e-commerce web site or similar)

This is also kneed as 1to1 marketing methodology provided by Peppers and Rogers Group. This base method is represented trough IDIC (Identify, Differentiate, Interact and Customize). You can get more information about 1to1 at http://www.1to.com .

Also, we receive a lot of information at our screen such as:

- How Many visits  has the customer made to the store?
- How much money spent?
- Date of Last Visit
- Have credit card or not?
- Married?

All of this relevant information acquired in real time allows us to offer the customer an excellent shopping experience and gives us the opportunity to offer the right products based on the shopping history and give a chance to us to take important decisions.Let me show you some real scenarios:

- When the system send me the information that’s the resident was already on our store we can say to the customer: Welcome Back !

- When we realize that the customer got 3 times on my store at the same day I ask if the customer need some help because it’s sounds like the customer is really under difficulty.

- More than once in the same day at our store ? Good ! Magic Moment ! Keep the eyes open!

It’s very exciting to use marketing systems that’s probably will exist in the future on the Second Life!
